“Create a vision that makes you wanna jump out of bed in the morning.” ā Ella Henderson
Hello there! Welcome to Day #42 in A Year of Positivity! I hope this post finds you well and in good spirits! Sometimes I have quotes pre-selected for a certain amount of days, and sometimes I pick them out in the same day I share them. As for today’s quote, I saw it last week and had it assigned to today’s post. Ella Henderson once said, “Create a vision that makes you wanna jump out of bed in the morning.”
I knew today’s quote would make a wonderful addition to this Year of Positivity project. However, on Friday morning I saw a motivational speech by Mind Valley and that made me super excited. I knew this post was coming and was waiting for this day to arrive because this quote reminds me about something that was spoken in the beginning of the motivational video. So, I have a little exercise for you to do, and it’ll require standing up for a minute or two. Are you ready?
Okay, so this is how it goes. As you stand up, make sure there’s nothing in your path in front of you. Once you’re clear of any objects, close your eyes and think of yourself in the future, just ten years down the road. Focus only on that as you literally take one step forward. Imagine that one step forward skipping you straight to ten years into your future. Fully embrace what you desire to have at that time, as if you had accomplished your goals and dreams. Once you let it fill your heart, turn around and imagine looking at yourself 10 years earlier.
Where are you in the future, and where are you today? How long of a journey do you have for personal or professional growth to get to where you want to be in 10 years from now? There should be a pretty decent gap. Now, imagine you ten years from now, being given the opportunity to give advice to your younger self, advice that will drive you to reach where you are in the future. What advice would you give yourself? Usually the first thoughts that come to mind are the truest and most honest pieces of advice you could give to yourself.
This is the same exercise I did from the Mind Valley speaker who asked his audience to try it out. It was a spine-chilling, eye-opening, and incredibly moving experience for me. It truly made me think of what I envisioned for my life in ten years, and it’s helping me to clear a path to get there. I know exactly what I want, and following my older self’s advice, I’m working on a routine and some goals to help me along the way, and all of it makes me want to jump out of bed in the morning and get started right away!
Listen to your heart and your soul. Invest at least one hour in yourself for personal or professional growth (or both, if that is your desire), preferably in the morning before the dawn and busy-ness of life catches up to you. Focus on your identity shift (ten years from now), rather than focusing on the outcome of the process. Let your ten-year-older self’s advice soak in, and embrace it completely. Invest in yourself, in your skills, your self-esteem, and overall the best you that you can possibly be.
