Day #88 in A Year of Positivity

“Be stubborn about your goals, but flexible about your methods.” – William A. Donohue

Salutations! Welcome to Day #88 in A Year of Positivity! You’re going to see a minor change in the way I present the daily quote. I used to be able to change the font colors interchangeably. Now, the host site has done an update that took it away, and it was one of my favorite features. The only color option available to me now is to do one solid color for the entire block. No, thank you, lol. So, I’m leaving the font alone in its default color. Also, it’s been an incredibly long and truly exhausting day for me, and I’m fighting sleep with every fiber of my being right now, so I will probably leave today’s message a little on the short side.

That being said, I would like to dive right in and talk about a quote I came across earlier this evening from William Donohue, “Be stubborn about your goals, but flexible about your methods.” I like this quote because it tells us there are multiple ways to move through our goals. For some people, it takes a few years of trying this method or that method, before they discover the method that works best for them. Others may give up if they haven’t found a method that successfully helps them reach their goals, and it’s so sad when this happens.

A major goal I’ve been working on is my skin complexion. I’ve been battling acne since I hit puberty. Sometimes I have what I call “good skin days” where my breakouts are minimal and tiny that I can actually wear makeup for a few hours. However, most of the time, my combination skin loves playing tricks on me. I can (gently) wash my face five times a day and still have flakes of skin on my face, and it gives my makeup a cake-y look (obviously not actually washing my face 5x a day, just saying my skin is still so flakey, yet my T-zone is so oily). I’ve tried the dewy and matte makeup styles. Neither of them have worked for me. I’ve tried so many store-brand and online market brands of make-up and skincare products I’ve probably spent hundreds of dollars on, hundreds wasted over products that just didn’t do me any favors (or made my breakouts worse!). So, now I’m in the middle of trying a brand new method, which is seeing a dermatologist. It’s been an incredibly frustrating journey, and I even (regretfully) put skincare 100% on the back burner in my twenties, but I’m giving it another go with a professional this time.

Also, as I mentioned in earlier posts, I’ve been trying to wake up earlier in the morning. I’m a Taurus who’s a creature of comfort. It’s hard for me to wake up and get out of bed so early in the morning because my bed’s all nice and comfy and cozy. This is when laziness and stubbornness bites me in the butt lol, though I’ve been trying different methods of doing so because I know once that I’m officially awake and on my feet, I’m raring to go and I’m ready to take on the world by storm. Slowly and surely I’m building on my perfect morning routine but it’s a challenge I accept with the reward of getting more things done in my day by completing them before the dawn rises (mental and physical challenge rewards). So far, I’ve only managed to snag a few bits and pieces for my morning ritual, but I know that I’ll master this soon enough, though.

So many people give up just before they discover their breakthrough method to reach their goals. Don’t let this be you. I know I’m determined to see these two goals of mine through. What about you? Do you have any goals you’re working on right now, that are a bit of a challenge to meet? What methods have you tried? What methods have you not tried or thought of yet? It’s important to be flexible in this area because if you stick to one particular method, and it doesn’t work for you, you probably won’t get anywhere with the goal or task at hand. If the goal is incredibly important to you though you’re struggling to meet it, it’s high time to think of some alternative methods, even outside-the-box if you have to. So, stick to your goals, and have fun trying out new approaches to reaching the levels of success you want or need. One of the methods is bound to be the perfect one for you.
