Day #33 in A Year of Positivity

“Walk slowly but never walk backward.” Unknown

Hello, hello! Thank you for checking out Day #33 in A Year of Positivity! I’m not exactly sure where today’s quote comes from but I certainly love it, “Walk slowly but never walk backward.” The first thing that came to mind when I read this was, “Slow and steady wins the race.”

They’re similar in that they both talking about moving forward, even if it’s at the slowest and steadiest of paces. What I like about today’s quote, though, is the fact that it tells us never to walk backward. Life isn’t easy to navigate, and we all muddle through troubled waters at one point. Yesterday is the past, and although it’s meant to be cherished for some of the most beautiful things we go through, it’s also meant to be a lesson for us to accept the mistakes we’ve made and learn from them to do and be better today, so that we’re stronger and more prepared for tomorrow.

I know, I know, easier said than done. I’ve had more than my fair share of dwelling in yesterday, but honestly, doing that never got me anywhere. It never has, and it never will. I’ve made mistakes that I was able to fix, and I have also made mistakes I’ll never be able to resolve. The latter of the two is what causes me to dwell in the past, but learning to accept these mistakes, figuring out why I made them, and owning up to them is what shapes me into the person I am today.

Another message I take from today’s quote is about not moving too fast in life, and not rushing into things, or making rash decisions. A lot of things, especially goals and dreams, can’t be reached in an overnight process. Some people get what is called a ‘lucky break’, but most things in life require patience and a steady pace followed by persistence. If you don’t give up, and you keep moving forward, you’ll get to where you’re meant to be. However, if you walk backward, then this will be counterproductive and it will set you back.

Take this phrase however you want, but don’t ever walk backwards.
Always move forward, even if it’s at a slow and steady pace.
You can do it. You’ve got this. I believe in you!
