Day #59 in A Year of Positivity

Hey, everyone, and thank you for joining me on Day #59 in A Year of Positivity! I hope this message finds you well and in good health. Today’s quote comes from an unknown author, though it’s a great quote too, “One day or day one. You decide.”

I really like this quote because it’s short, right to the point, and urges us to make a decision. Now, sometimes the best option may be to wait, depending on what the matter at hand is, especially big decisions, or decisions that may have dangerous repercussions if not dealt with the right way. However, if the matter at hand is anything related to personal self-growth, or short-term goals, the answer should be, day one, not one day.

I’ve been working on a lot of behind-the-scenes personal growth goals when no one’s looking because they’re for me and my future, such as better time management, better stress management, etcetera. These are short-term goals that I’ve set for myself because I know that in the long run I’ll be better off for it. I’ll be able to increase productivity throughout my day from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed, and if I have a much better handle on my stress today than I did yesterday, I’ll be a better person tomorrow. Also, if I know how to manage my stress appropriately, I’ll also be able to manage my time better.

Before I broke my wrist and had surgery on it back in July, I was feeling incredibly overwhelmed with everything on my plate, and it really showed in my health through migraines and feeling sick a lot. I was working 40 hours a week in my normal daytime job, trying to work on my books while taking care of my grandma, and I was feeling like there simply wasn’t enough time in the day to do everything I need to do while trying to take better care of myself.

While it’s not a very fun experience to go through, breaking my wrist and having surgery on it was actually a blessing in disguise. I haven’t been sick once since I broke my wrist, and I can count on one hand how many migraines I’ve had (three total) since I got off the painkillers they prescribed me post-surgery. It made me realize I wasn’t managing my stress very well! What seems like a terrible event of breaking my wrist actually gave me the mental break and reset that I didn’t realize I needed. It gave me time to take a break from working, and writing, and it gave me time to seriously think about how to improve everything from now on, because something needed to change.

So, instead of saying, “one day,” I actually started it, and am actively working on myself every day, slowly adding in new, healthy habits that support productivity, as well as better stress and time management. Now, granted, I have some other near-future short-term goals I want to work on, but until I master my short-term goals I’ve already been working on, those near-future short-term goals will have to wait, so in their case, it’s one day – for now, lol. What about long-term goals, you may ask? The same rule to near-future short-term goals applies here as well for me, because in my case, the goals I’m working on now are going to be foundational and instrumental for all my days ahead.

Is there anything in your life – on the personal growth level or otherwise – that you see flaws in? Do you like everything about who you are now? If in your answer you see growth within you is needed, then it’s probably time to dive into your areas that need improvement, research some resolutions and study them, and apply them to your life. It’s okay if you’re nervous, but don’t be afraid to take that step forward, because self-improvement only leads to better things to come.
