Day #36 in A Year of Positivity

“Remember: you are the only person who thinks in your mind! You are the power and authority in your world.”
– Louise Hay

Salutations and thank you for joining me on Day #36 in A Year of Positivity! Today’s quote is brought to you by Louise Hay, “Remember: you are the only person who thinks in your mind! You are the power and authority in your world.”

I like this quote because it reminds me of the time where I allowed two people, from two entirely different types of relationships, into my mind. These people ended up being incredibly toxic for my life. Because I gave them the key to my mind, meaning the power and authority, I ended up being so harsh and critical of myself because of their intensely sharp tongues. I believed the words that they spewed, that I’d never amount to anything, that I wasn’t good enough, and that I was my own worst enemy whose only goal was to take myself down.

In a sense, I was my own worst enemy because of unresolved issues in my teen years that led me to contemplating suicide at one point, but the fact that these two types of people knew I was an easy mark, and somehow knew I had some unresolved issues, had used this to their advantage without me ever talking to them about my issues. It’s scary when you think about it like this because there really are people out there who can spot someone with low self-esteem, an easy target to control, like me.

It was only by the grace of God that I got away from both people without them following me. It took me years to change my mindset from such negative thinking and driving out their toxicity from my mind space. There were even times where I had setbacks, triggers you might say, which pulled me into a full panic mode whenever I saw someone that looked eerily similar to them, or sounded so much like them, and that drove my anxiety through the roof. Yes, this means they still occupied my mind, which meant they still had the power.

Don’t give that power and authority to anyone! Don’t let anyone’s negative views on you stew in your thoughts. These people are toxic and you will only encounter setback after setback. If someone’s already occupying your mind space with their toxic words like I’ve experienced, then it’s time to let these people go. If you have unresolved issues that need to be addressed like I did, getting some help from a professional will be your best course of action. Otherwise, it’ll be one step forward in positive thinking, but two steps back with those unresolved issues.

It takes time to heal, yes. It takes time to take back control, with one positive thought at a time, but you can do it! I’m living proof of this! If today’s quote applies to you, I highly encourage you to keep it close. If I would’ve discovered this quote years ago, I’d have used it as my daily mantra, or motto, to help me get through my struggles. I only found it yesterday, and it’s a beautiful and powerful one, so I believe it can help where it’s needed.

Even if you’re not someone who struggles with letting someone and their words occupy their mind like I once did, I think this quote can still apply to other situations. Everyone struggles with doubt, hopelessness, and being too critical and hard on themselves at one point. Keeping in mind that you have the power and authority of your world, your thoughts, can be a glorious reminder that we’re the only ones who can truly think in our minds.

Our minds, our thoughts, these things are what drive us to the actions, reactions, and decisions that we take and make on our individual paths in life. I’d spoken in yesterday’s post about how the mind is our most powerful tool, so use it to your advantage! And remember: don’t let anyone, even you, negatively occupy your mind space. You are the power and authority of your own world! Only you have the power and authority to change that mindset into a positive and confident one!
