This is such a sweet and simple quote that I feel is true down to the very core. It can have many different meanings. To me, it means not surrounding yourself with darkness and letting the evil get to you.

Instead, surround yourself with light and the love of God. It can be so easy to get lost in darkness that life can bring on and not remember to look at the light at all. Remember to remind yourself every once in a while to turn on the light!
