Hello and welcome to A Year of Thanks!
First, I would love to take a moment to wish everyone a Happy New Year! 2025 feels like an incredible year already, and I can’t wait to see what it has in store for you and me!
As I mentioned on the intro page to A Year of Positivity, I once did a Year of Thanks challenge daily on my private Facebook. I remember it being one of the best things I ever did for my well-being because it helped me through one of the bleakest periods I’ve ever encountered.
These past three years have been another trying time that has weighed heavily on my heart and soul. I’ve had to mourn the passing of my biological father after I’d only known him for three years. I’ve had to let go of a committed relationship I was in and rediscover myself as I continuously move through my season of being unattached. I’ve also had to step in full-time as my grandmother’s sole caretaker after she fell and broke her right kneecap and fractured her tibial bone, which severely affected her health. During that time, my mental health even took a dip, so I hunkered down and focused a great deal of 2024 on my grandma and my mental health.
2022-2024 has been a crazy but incredibly humbling experience. It’s brought me back to God, taught me many valuable lessons in love and life, and provided me with so much clarity, peace, and joy that I can’t even measure by human or earthly standards. I haven’t felt this amazing since 2009-2010, when I lived in San Diego. I feel so alive and more myself now than ever before. I see so much color, beauty, and love. I can’t wait to see what 2025 brings to the table, and I plan on investing in some real daily reflections to stay in this positive mindset.
I’ve noticed, among many others, that 2024 has been a chaotic year and even bleak for some. Many folks I know kept their year low-key as they quietly focused their attention wherever they needed to, though the year was heavy on their hearts and spirits, too. I think I speak to many people when I say we’re ready for a bright new year. Ringing in a new year always brings a beautiful opportunity to incorporate an uplifting perspective that may be the perfect breath of fresh air we need to enhance the most magical days of the year and get through the toughest of days.
That being said, I am investing in 2025 with a daily gratitude challenge. According to Psychology Today, gratitude opens doors to more relationships, improves sleep and physical health, decreases depression, and increases happiness. Gratitude also reduces aggression while enhancing empathy and boosts self-esteem and mental strength. Are you ready to dive deep in 2025 with me?
Grab yourself a little journal and be sure to write a little something every day. The challenge is to reflect on the day at hand and find something special about it that is humbling to you or even precious and important. It can be something small or anything big. It could even be a person you’re happy to have in your life, a goal achieved, or just a tiny, beautiful moment you don’t want to forget. Let’s move through this year, find something in each day, and capture it forever to reflect on deeply within and in the years ahead!
