Some Things That Aren’t Worth Your Time in Life
Sometimes, to improve the quality of our lives, increase productivity, or simply find better ways to protect our sanity and peace of mind, certain negative things or habits need to be removed. Here’s a little insight into the things that we can review and remove wherever applicable in our lives:
- Staying in toxic relationships. These relationships drain our energy, cause unnecessary stress, and often lead to emotional and/or psychological trauma. Cut ties with toxic people, whether they are friends or partners. You deserve healthy, supportive connections. (If a toxic relationship is a danger to your life, then run and/or report to the authorities.)
- Dwelling in the past. Constantly thinking about past mistakes or missed opportunities creates anxiety and sadness. The past is gone, and the future depends on what we do now. We can’t start the next chapter of our lives if we keep rereading the last one. So, focus on the present moment, where changes can actually be made.
- Holding onto grudges. Resentment in the heart only holds us back and fills our minds with negativity. Letting go of the anger allows room for the heart to build upon positive emotions. (If someone keeps crossing one of your boundaries, don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself, and then move on.)
- Waiting for inspiration. We can’t rely on other people for the sake of our own happiness, as we will get nowhere good with this. This is something that must come from within ourselves. Pour the energy that’s given to others back into yourself. Detachment helps to value and prioritize our own well-being.
- Spending too much time on social media. More often than not, social media can be a huge time sink, filled with distractions that have nothing to do with contributing to our personal growth. We can learn to be mindful of how much time we’re spending online by setting limits to avoid wasting hours scrolling.
Based on personal experience, I can attest to the fact that #1, #3, and #5 work really well. I do have a tendency to dwell on the past (I’m working on it, though), and I’ve been a continuous work in progress with #4, but it works as well.
