“You saved yourself. You became your own safe space. But you don’t have to do it alone anymore.”—Alisha Patel
I know I’m quoting Alisha Patel a lot lately, but she’s incredible with her words. Besides, what quote could be better than this one, which fits well with today’s Day of Thanks post? Here’s the full quote from Alisha:
You don’t have to do it alone. I know it’s the way you’ve always done things. I know that when you really need someone, you isolate, you shut down, and your guard goes up. But that’s because you learned early that nobody was coming to help you. You had to learn to cope with things alone. Nobody saw your pain. Nobody came to save you. You saved yourself. You became your own safe space. But you don’t have to do it alone anymore.
This is a tough one for me, as I’m still trying to learn how to ask for help when I really need it. Sometimes, I’m on par with it, and other times, I really suck at it because I’m so used to being independent. But at least I’m learning, and I’m growing. Being alone isn’t a good thing. And I’m not alone, and neither are you. We’re in this together, and I believe we will make it through.
