“Unforgiveness has the same ‘chemical reaction’ spiritually as poison does to the body when ingested. Both can destroy what they come in contact with. Unforgiveness—if left unchecked—has the power to poison the entire heart. The antidote for a poisoned heart is allowing it to be flushed out by choosing mercy over punishment, forgiveness over offense, relinquishing hurt to the Healer, and giving grace just like Jesus did for us. Choose to forgive, even when it’s hard, and choose forgiveness, even if you have to do so by faith until your feelings align. Unforgiveness is poison in any measurement.”—Catherine Ahne
Catherine, my dear, sweet sister in Christ, whom I met through my biological father’s side of the family, shared this quote about unforgiveness the other day, and I wanted to share it with you all, because it rings loud and so true. I know I’ve previously written about forgiveness on Day #55 in a Year of Thanks, as well as on Day #135 in A Year of Positivity, but there’s no such thing as writing too much about a topic like forgiveness. Unforgiveness is a bitter poison that loves to nestle its way into our hearts and take deep root. Unforgiveness also creeps up on us, so it’s always good practice to check in with our hearts from time to time to ensure we’re not harboring any kind of resentment or bitterness towards someone who has hurt us in any manner. So, let’s check in with our hearts, y’all, and make sure that unforgiveness isn’t taking root.
