Day #56 in A Year of Thanks:
I’m thankful for decluttering my phone.
I would like to take a moment to express how impressed I am with how such a small device as my iPhone can hold so much information, including apps, pictures, screen captures, and videos, and still have space for more! I’d been meaning to go through my photo albums on my iPhone and delete all the junk I’ve collected over time, such as screen captures of motivational quotes and stuff I took pictures of to remind myself about purchasing at a later date. However, it seemed daunting because it was just so much, so I kept pushing it off for quite some time. I finally had enough motivation this morning to tackle it. I deleted approximately 3,000 photos, screen captures, and apps I haven’t used in the last six months. I’ll transfer family photos and other items to a backup hard drive to start fresh with my phone this weekend. I will also continue reorganizing my laptops. Last year was about decluttering the mind, and now it feels just as incredible to start the decluttering process of all my digital spaces.
I have this terrible, annoying habit of taking a lot of screenshots of stuff that I think would be a great purchase. However, I’ve been consciously curbing my impulsive buying habit, which is why I screen-capture everything, and it has dramatically helped prevent plenty of unnecessary purchases. From now on, I will implement a new habit to keep my phone from getting so obnoxiously full again by creating a photo album for weekly reviews on stuff I screen capture. That way, I can see if what I took a screenshot of is worth my time and money, and if not, I’ll delete them because that shows me they’re not that important, anyway. I’ll let you know how this goes!
