Day #125 in A Year of Positivity

“Just one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.”—Dalai Lama

I woke up this morning around 7 a.m. with my throat hurting like crazy. I knew it was coming because I started getting sick yesterday with minor throat discomfort and my energy levels dropping significantly below the red line (for me). Then, last night, I began running a low-grade fever with wave after wave of airy-head-and-body-feeling general malaise. I can’t stand this feeling, as it totally ruins my mood. I debated how I would start my day today. Should I call out of work and go back to bed? Should I call off and go to urgent care? Should I take the first half of the day off or the second half to ensure I get to urgent care sometime today to see if I need antibiotics?

At some point, I realized I needed to ensure I started my day right. Since it was 7 a.m., I decided to tackle the throat pain by taking an OTC NSAID to help with the inflammation and pain. This helped me a great deal and gave me enough energy to take care of a thing or two this morning that needed my attention. Then, as I rested for a bit, I decided I’d definitely be going to urgent care at some point today. Afterward, I’d go to the store for some additional OTC throat remedies to restock my cabinet and get me through whatever this sickness is. I say all this to say that I recognize it’s a day in which I need to take care of myself because my physical health is just as important as my mental and emotional well-being.

Thankfully, I don’t have the general malaise right now. However, I decided that whatever upper respiratory infection this is, I won’t let it ruin my day. I can and will get through this. Dalai Lama got it right when having said, “Just one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.” Perhaps it’ll help you, too.
