“It’s not about being the best. It’s about being better than you were yesterday.” – Unknown
Good morning, my darling readers, and thank you for joining me on Day #75 in A Year of Positivity! It’s a glorious morning to be alive, and I’m thankful to have another day here on this beautiful green earth, to have another opportunity to be better than I was yesterday. That’s what today’s quote is about, “It’s not about being the best. It’s about being better than you were yesterday.” I can’t find the original author to this quote, but if you know who that is, please reach out, so I can provide credit where it’s due!
“To be the best” is a relative term, and a phrase that means something different to everyone. “Being your best” is actually a much better term, because it strips away the power of all outside opinions from others when it comes to you and your own well-being. Don’t focus on who’s the best in whatever you’re trying to be the best at. Their best will always be different from yours, because we’re all different from everyone else.
In one sense, we’re all created equal, but in another, we’re not. We’ve all got the same basic functions of survival and living on a day-to-day basis, and we all deserve the same basic rights and to be treated as equals and with respect. How we handle our lives and our well-being is what separates every person on this earth from the next. What may be your best may not be mine, and what may be your spouse’s or child’s best may not be your best.
You honestly can’t go wrong with being your best, though. Actively being your best will elevate you in so many ways that you may have never thought possible. Being and doing your best means personal growth in so many areas, and it prepares you for things to come. It opens up avenues you never realized you had before. There is a downside to being and doing your best, though.
Not everyone is going to agree with you. Some people are going to be jealous to see you actively doing something amazing and positive with your life when they feel stuck or trapped in theirs with a sense of no way out. Others may not even recognize you, depending on how much growth you attain. Don’t focus on them.
To be the best person you can be, and to do the best that is within your capabilities, is a choice that must be chosen every day. To get up and work hard at the changes you want to make is a choice one must make every day. As adults, we can’t blame how we run our days on anyone else. We have to actively make the conscious effort to own up to our actions, behaviors, and reactions to situations.
We may not always make the right choice, and sometimes we fail at letting everything and everyone control how we act, behave, and react toward everyone and everything, but that’s okay, because we’re not made to be perfect. As long as we recognize where we went wrong, own up to our mistakes, and we choose to be our best and do our best, we can’t possibly go wrong.
